Tutorial Enrollment: Introduction to Data Analysis with Stata

Introduction to Data Analysis using Stata

9 Module Tutorial — Currently Available

Enroll Now!

As a researcher, it’s critical for you to know more than one stats software.

Maybe you’re a bit nervous about tackling a new software…

Maybe the idea of learning a statistics software package has scared you…

But… it doesn’t have to be that way! You CAN learn Stata, and here’s your very first step.

I’m Jeff Meyer, workshop instructor.

My goal is that by the end of this tutorial, you will have a strong foundation for running statistical tests with Stata, including working with data sets, defining and recoding variables, and running univariate and bivariate descriptives, tests, and graphs.

I’ll provide a great introduction for anyone learning statistics in Stata for the first time.

Jeff MeyerJeff Meyer MBA, MPA

We will cover:

  • The Stata environment and how it works, including menus and syntax
  • Defining and formatting variables in Stata so they work with your analysis
  • Descriptive Statistics, Graphs, and Tests for one or two categorical or numerical variables
  • And more!

Who Is This Tutorial For?

This tutorial is suitable for students and professionals.

Whether this is your first statistical software package, or your third, this tutorial has everything you need to get started.

This tutorial is for you if:

  • You’re new to statistics and you now need to implement them in Stata.
  • You’re working on your first research project.
  • You’re familiar with another statistical software package, but want to learn Stata.
  • You’ve never used anything other than Excel.
  • You’ve used Stata before, but are struggling through it. (Maybe you were self-taught and could use an overview, or maybe you haven’t had to use statistics in a while and would now love a refresher.)

It is NOT for you if you:

  • You’ve used Stata for years and have the fundamentals down.
  • You’ve never taken any statistics classes before and don’t understand basic statistical concepts.
Yes, It Is For Me!

“It was great to see someone using R ‘live’ to see how it works.”

— Cate Bailey, Casual Research, Faculty of Health, Deakin University, Previous workshop participant —

How Does It Work?

This course is a fully online tutorial.

All lessons are recorded. During each lesson, the instructor will cover core concepts and steps.

Each module includes instruction using real research data sets, exercises, and syntax.

Where Do I Access Recordings and Materials?

For each module of the tutorial, you will have a set of training resources and materials.

As a participant of the Introduction to Data Analysis with Stata tutorial, you can access these for 12 months in our participant-only website.

Data Sets
Real research data sets in Stata format.

Recorded Lesson Videos
Always available so you can review material at your preferred schedule.

Software Syntax and Demo Videos
Step-by-step videos for Stata. Syntax files available to download so you can save and edit them for your own analysis.

Forum Access
Ask your instructor about tutorial content or how to apply it to your own data analysis.

Handouts
Session slides and supplementary material to support your learning.

Suggested Resources
External videos, articles, or exercises that we recommend to support your learning.

You’ll have access to this site and all the related materials and resources for ONE FULL YEAR. That means you can re-watch sessions and ask additional questions again during that 12-month period.

Often, our students report they understand the material at a deeper level on a second or third pass. You’ll learn more every time, so take advantage of it!

Yes, I Am Interested!

“I’m a new R user; it just gave me another motivation why I need to learn it further. Great work.”

— Essam Alshreafi, Network Optimization Manager, Danone North America, Previous workshop participant —

About Your Instructor

Hi, I’m Jeff Meyer, your tutorial instructor, and professional statistical consultant.

My main focus areas are wide ranging. I work with linear, binomial, count and mixed models. In addition my work entails running exploratory and confirmatory models, Structural Equation Models (SEM), latent class analysis, and multiple imputation models for missing data.

I understand that to be an effective instructor, it takes more than subject matter knowledge and a logical approach to analyzing data. I truly enjoy working with people, and I care about your success!

Jeff MeyerJeff Meyer MBA, MPA

“For me, it was a good introduction to R, using simpler (well understood) statistical techniques that did not detract from the introduction to R.”

— Martin Watts, Ph.D., President, FORCOMP Forestry Consulting Ltd., Previous workshop participant —

Prerequisites

So what kind of background in statistics do you need?

This course starts out at a basic level. No, you don’t need a PhD in statistics… we know you’re a researcher, not a statistician.

We’re assuming you understand:

  • Statistical tests
  • Basic graphing
  • How to work with data and variables in some other stat program

If you have questions about whether you’re ready for this class, just email us. We’ll give you our honest opinion. We want you to succeed!

Your Satisfaction Is Guaranteed

As with all of our programs, your satisfaction is guaranteed. Your registration fee is fully refundable for up to 30 days after purchase. If you participate fully in the tutorial – watch, read, and try out what is included – and find you are not satisfied, we will give you a full refund. Just notify us within 30 days of purchasing the program.

FAQs

Q: I haven’t taken a statistics course in years. Will I be able to keep up?

A: As long as you have the suggested prerequisites (a strong understanding of linear regression), you should be fine.

However, you WILL need to spend some time each week, both going over the material and also “getting your hands dirty” with some data. Expect to spend 4-5 hours per week reviewing the material and doing the exercises, and re-running class examples on your own.

You know how this goes: The more time you put in, the deeper your understanding.

Q: What’s your refund policy?

A: Your registration fee is fully refundable up to 30 days after purchase. If you participate fully in the tutorial – watch, read, and try out what is included – and find you are not satisfied, we will give you a full refund. Just notify us within 30 days of purchasing the program.

Q: I’m outside the U.S. Can I still participate?

A: Yes. We have participants from many different countries. You will want a decent internet connection and will have all program lessons and materials available to you to work through on your own schedule.

Q: Can I pay with Paypal?

A: Yes. When you check out, you can pay directly using our system or paying with Paypal.
